Members of the Lyndon Community:
I am extremely pleased to share the following news with you ...
Carhartt, Inc. Gives $1 Million to Lyndon State College
Lyndon State College is pleased to announce that the Michigan-based clothing company Carhartt, Inc., has made a $1 million gift in support of the College's first comprehensive fundraising campaign, A New View: The Second Century Campaign. "This is a significant gift that will benefit our students and the surrounding Northeast Kingdom," said Lyndon President Carol A. Moore.
Carhartt President & CEO and Lyndon alumnus Mark Valade '78 helped secure this gift when he recognized "that the stars are aligned with regard to the leadership and resources available to guide both Lyndon State College and the Northeast Kingdom into a promising and prosperous future."
A portion of the Carhartt gift will help expand Lyndon's Promise Scholarship Program and provide more scholarships to low-income students from the Northeast Kingdom (NEK) who will be among the first in their families to graduate from college. The Promise Scholarship has also benefited from a corresponding grant from Boston-based Jane's Trust, and the program will be organized through the Patrick and Marcelle Leahy Center for Rural Students at Lyndon.
In addition to bolstering scholarship support, this gift will be used to create the Carhartt Advising Resource Center. The Carhartt Center will serve as an advising resource to students as well as to faculty and staff. For students, it will support the academic advising process by providing students with a visible resource on campus to find answers to a wide range of questions. For faculty and staff, it will exist as a central resource for professional development and information to ensure consistency in advising practices across the campus. The primary goal of the Carhartt Center is to ensure that all students receive the information they need to succeed at Lyndon and beyond.
The gift will also fund two important initiatives that will strengthen the College for decades to come. The first is the acquisition of a ten-acre parcel of land adjacent to the campus. The second is to provide funding to underwrite some of the costs of The Second Century Campaign. Lyndon plans to announce the details of The Second Century Campaign at public events scheduled to occur concurrently at nine different locations around the country on Saturday, July 17, 2010. President Moore said that "Lyndon is very grateful for Carhartt's vision and generosity."
Since 1889, Carhartt, Inc., has manufactured premium work wear known for exceptional durability, comfort and quality of construction. Carhartt is family-owned and operated with more than 3,500 employees dedicated to its mission of providing "best-in-class" apparel for the active worker.

You have never met me, but I will benefit from your support.
My name is Casey Spear. I just finished my sophomore year at Lyndon. I will be the first in my family to graduate from college with a bachelor's degree. I have grown so much at Lyndon. I thoroughly enjoy my education - learning empowers me.
I want to make a difference in the lives of others, just like the professors at this college have made a difference in mine. Because of Lyndon, I know my options are wide open and the possibilities are endless.
I worked on the Phonathon this year and understand how much the College relies on its alumni and friends for support. Thank you for making sure the Lyndon experience is possible for students like me.
With gratitude,
Casey Spear '12
